Records of the flesh

Records of the Flesh is a photographic exploration of identity — unravelling the complex, and often absurd, ways society defines who we are. The project questions the performance of 'desirable' traits and the costs of conforming to them, playing both trickster and observer in a tangled web of authenticity and artifice.

Challenging the societal standards that distort and commodify identity through objectification, fetishization, and oversexualization, this work invites us to confront our true selves — beyond the noise of expectation.

What if our identities are little more than subconscious constructs of the mind (which we go on to perform in the outside world)? What if when we pick ourselves apart, we don’t exist in the ways that we wish we do? What version of yourself are you?

The connection between where you’re from and who you are is a complicated (yet perhaps inescapable) one. Our past and our places are part of us. How is it that we can feel close to a place far away and yet, feel so distant from that same place when we are finally near?
