Body

Developing  sculptural mirrored  ‘digital portals’ for the gallery space would be in reference to the body,  pointing to the physicality of virtuality - a reality that is often forgotten.

Playing  on our now seemingly inherent fascination with our own image, selfie culture and the unreality of our physical form which many of us experience as a result. Surrounded by these portals, made from a unique blend of upcycled materials, such as discarded phone screens, electrical wires  and computer components, viewers will see their own eyes and image staring back at themselves from beyond the digital graveyard.

These consist of mirrors that are submerged in discarded wires and  pieces of electronics. Comprising old, discarded phone screens and computer parts adorned with glitter and glow-in-the-dark goo - tackling the alluring, yet disturbing, and ever-present nature of modern tech.Behind every passageway to the virtual realm is a very real environmental cost to our physical world and the people in it. The internet is not intangible, it is not a ritual,  it is not magic. Instead, it consists of  lithium mines, global warming,  labour, exploitation and feeds itself on surveillance capitalism.
